Four Awesome Viking Fancy Dress Ideas

The Vikings were a legendarily tough race of people, and there are few things more fun than to don a Viking fancy dress costume and act like one for the night. The Viking way of life was one of drinking, fighting, and pillaging, taking what they liked and living the tough life on the seas.

When you find or make a great Viking costume, you’ll stand out at any fancy dress party, whether it’s Halloween or any other occasion. And you have the excuse to have as much fun as you like as you get into the Viking character. Here are some awesome Viking costume ideas to get you started:

1. Viking Warrior

The greatest of the Viking fancy dress costumes is the Viking warrior. Tough and geared for war. A good Viking warrior costume needs a great big black or dark coloured tunic, with leather belt and a big old belt buckle. The leggings or should be black – normal black trousers will do. But the important part is some big furry Viking boots, bound with strips of tough leather.

And the cuffs and forearms should also be covered in similar fur bound with leather – the effect is excellent. Very Viking-like. Another important part of the costume is a big warm looking cloak, and of course the piece de resistance – the Viking’s hat with two huge horns sticking out of the top.

2. Viking Woman

Of course the Viking women were tough too – so why not dress up as a strong, and sexy Viking lady, ready to do battle. Tall knee-high boots are a must, they should be furry in appearance or at least leather, with some sort of trimming at the top. A leather or furry warm skirt and tunic with white fur lining is perfect for the main part.

Of course the Viking woman costume needs a sword too. And the helmet needn’t have the two horns, some golden wings spread backwards will be equally great.

3. Viking King

The Viking King costume idea is far beyond the Viking warrior. The Viking warrior is designed to look tough and look good. But the Viking king is just sheer over-the-top tough and fun. You want fur everywhere – billows of it sticking out. Imagine you are actually going to cross the northern seas.

And a huge beard that stretches down to your waist, braided if possible. And for the helmet,. Well the horns have to be just as long and curved as possible, this is a king we are talking about.

4. Viking queen costume

The Viking queen is also more over-the-top than the Viking lady. The style is more elegant, with long flowing dresses, and a great corset. The queen’s tiara should be silver. And the whole effect should be of someone who is about to break into opera singing.
